The wind whipped around her like an icy sheet of knives, piercing her pale skin like millions of papercuts. Shivers ran down her spine like tremors as she called to him helplessly, as her voice was lost in the gusts. Her throat strained to fight out the air, but her words were drowned by the storm. He stood across the opening, with his back to her. He stared out at the sea, his nose red from the bitter weather. His tears dripped down from his eyes, and were streaked across his whiskered cheeks by the heavy draft. Inside his jacket, his heart felt cold and hard, like it had been dead for only a few hours. But it still pumped blood to his brain, to fuel the numbness of the pain. The love of his life was gone with the tide. She looked like the moon, he thought, pretty and eery. She would bring him light in the night of his life. Now she was gone, lost from orbit, somewhere between here and another universe. He felt nothing but the heavy weight of her absence, as he stood looking out to the endless body of water. [break][break] Her limbs were heavy in the sand as she tried to move them. She could see him, his dark silhouette cast against the grey sky, and navy surf. She continued to call to him, against the wind, as her desperation grew. He needed her at this time. The loss was unbearable to her, and she could only guess how he felt. She was steps from him now when he heard his name and turned. They collided with a hug, holding each other tight. They were both hollow. The loss of their loved one seemed to scoop out their humanity with a spoon. Her sister, his lover. She had been something to them, but she had been stolen. There was no way of getting her back. She was now just smoke, heavy and black now, but soon to fade away. When she was there, she caused so many smiles, but now only a memory. Countless tears shed written in her name. She was gone, and there was nothing to numb the hurt. |
