While she had a habit to chastise people about their modesty (or rather, the lack there of), there was no doubt that she herself was a proud person. Perhaps she didn't flaunt her ego around, but she always held herself in a way that sometimes came across as haughty and contemptuous. In her mind, she had every right to do so. It probably wasn't the smartest thing to do, especially surrounded by Purebloods who thought that she didn't belong anywhere near "their" society, but she couldn't help but to display her talents. She felt a strong urge to prove to them that she was just as good as they were, perhaps even better if she tried hard enough and applied herself. She entered into the Magical World being told that it wouldn't matter that she was Muggleborn, and while that was true to some extent, it did matter to other people. Her want, her need to prove to people that she did belong in the Wizarding World became a borderline obsession. She worked hard, she ignored the sneers and jeers of the Purebloods who tried to tear her down. She told herself that she was better than them. That she didn't need to stoop to such pathetic levels as to rise against them. She didn't need to take part in duels or petty fights to prove her worth. She did so by being the bigger person and walking away from a fight. They could call her a coward all they wanted, but her resolve was as strong as steel. [break] Being appointed as Head Girl over the many Purebloods (specifically Pureblood Slytherins) was the icing on the cake. One of the greatest accomplishments one could achieve during Hogwarts, and a mere Muggleborn had the honor of earning it. She tried to stay humble, but the scandalized looks on a few of the Slytherins' faces last night during the Welcoming Feast nearly made her break down in hysterical laughter. Even the prospect of working with someone as undoubtedly intolerable as James Potter couldn't bring down her spirits when she saw the outraged faces of her antagonists and the elated faces of her friends. [break] The news of having to work with Potter had certainly come as a surprise during the summer. She was certain that the Head Boy badge would go to Remus. Or perhaps a nice Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. But James? He didn't have the cleanest of records. She went through many conflicting stages during the summer regarding the subject of working with Potter. At first, she was understandably confused, then she panicked. What if he did something that would jeopardize her own badge? But as she continued to think about it she began thinking her signature optimistic thoughts. Perhaps with the news of having such a huge model like position James matured a bit? After all, having the many students of the many years look up to you for guidance was no easy task, hopefully Potter realized that point and remembered it. She kept telling herself to hold onto that ounce of hope, maybe her dream of James' new found maturity would come true. [break] Their first Head's meeting was to be the morning of the first day of classes. To say that she was a mess of emotions was an understatement. On one hand she wanted to start off the new year fresh and believe that he was going to actually help her this year, but on the other hand, she couldn't just erase the previous six years from her memory. She stared at herself in the full length mirror in her dorm, surveying herself and looking at her reflection sternly. She tried to make herself look as professional as possible. Her uniform was neat and orderly and her long red hair was wrapped up on the top of her head in a bun, she hoped she appeared as businesslike as she felt. "Okay Lils, be calm, be professional, don't take your wand out for any reason whatsoever." she looked into her own eyes sternly and pointed at her reflection. "You're Head Girl now. You have a responsibility and you have people counting on you. Don't let them down" Lily had a moment of empowerment before being rudely brought out of it by a pillow hitting her head. "Will you cut it out Lily?" an irate and sleepy Mary called. Lily glared in her friend's direction before looking back at her reflection groaning at how the previously neat bun had been knocked messily to the side. "Thanks Mary." she said sarcastically. She heard a grunt, and some shuffling as Mary settled back into bed. [break] Lily rolled her eyes before making her way out of the girls' dorms, taking her now messy bun out and shaking her hair loose and walking down the stairs, where she was surprisingly met by James. She looked down at her wrist where her simple black watch rested. She thought she would be waiting for him but it seemed like she was the one who kept him waiting. She was slightly mortified that James Potter was suddenly more punctual than she was, but she took it as a good sign. That was, until he opened his mouth. She rolled her eyes (as per usual around him) and shook her head, "I would never leave our Head Duties hanging like that. That's just rude and irresponsible." she said, putting emphasis on their duties and ignoring his second statement. It would probably be better if she just ignored the statements she didn't like rather than try and get him to stop. Surely, it would save them tons of time? She shifted uncomfortably under his gaze for a moment before approaching him and sitting on the ground by the fireplace. She leaned back on her arms and used one hand to prop herself up while using the other to play with the frayed carpet beneath her. She looked up at him with a raised eyebrow, "What did you want to discuss first? Did you even have something in mind to discuss?" she asked a bit dubiously. She would be incredibly impressed if James prepared for this meeting.. |
